NAVY, NAVY, NAVY!!!
Tips to know as a new cadet!
- *** You do not need to join the military after high school ***
- This program has high involvement from cadets, and you are highly encouraged to participate and climb the ladder in our unit and become a leader
- There is a lot of amazing volunteer opportunities to help out you community!
- Try to sign up for football parking duty (counts as volunteer hours) it's simple and you get into the games for free
- You are able to talk to upperclassmen and make friends in all grades
- We have a lunch section just for us at the picnic table, a great way to make new friends and escape freshman drama!
- If a fellow peer or even a fellow cadet is bullying you or making you uncomfortable in a racist, sexist or homophobic way, don't hesitate to talk to someone like your ROTC instructor, the CO or the XO of the unit!
- Learn the NATO phonetic alphabet! It's really easy and you will get tested on it (make sure you know how to spell you last name phonetically)
- Make sure you know your national and cadet chain of command
- Memorize your Orders to the Sentry!
- DON'T chew gum or sit on the desks... you will have to do push-ups
- You will also have to do push ups if you want a tissue (so during the flu season, bring your own!)
- We go on lots of field trips, like the Whitewater Center, Paris Island, etc. so try to go on them to have amazing experiences!
- Some of the field trips are overnight and cadets have the chance to stay the night at military bases
- We also highly encourage new cadets to join a team or department
- If a cadet joins a team they will be able to go to competitions and events! (We also have team parties and get-togethers)
- Cadets will also have the chance to go to the Navy and Military Ball, an amazing night with friends and food!
- There is a lot of bonding between all grades and ranks, and NJROTC is a great way to connect with people within the unit
